Instagram now allows users to control read receipts in direct messages (DMs). You can turn read receipts on or off for individual chats or all chats. To turn off read receipts for all messages, go to “settings and privacy,” scroll down to “messages and story replies,” and toggle “show read receipts” on or off. To change read receipts for a specific chat, navigate to that person’s DMs and toggle read receipts. These changes, along with other updates to DMs, make Instagram’s messaging more like texting on iMessage. The ability to edit read receipts gives users more control over their privacy and communication preferences on the platform.
