Singapore-based semiconductor firm Silicon Box is set to invest 3.2 billion euros ($3.50 billion) in a new chip plant in northern Italy as part of a government-backed deal. The exact location for the plant is yet to be determined, pending approval from the European Commission for planned financial aid. This investment aims to generate 1,600 new direct jobs and additional indirect employment opportunities. Silicon Box, founded by the creators of U.S. chipmaker Marvell, will focus on producing “chiplets” in Italy, which are small semiconductors combined through advanced packaging techniques to power various applications like data centers and household appliances.
