Meta explains how WhatsApp’s encrypted chats will work with third-party services

Meta, under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), is required to enable interoperability with other services within three months of a request. However, the actual implementation for public use may take longer. Initially, the focus is on one-on-one chats and file sharing like images and videos before expanding to group chats and calls over time. Third-party providers must sign agreements to interoperate with Messenger and WhatsApp, using WhatsApp’s Signal protocol for encryption.
