Video game industry layoffs are a collision of trends

The video game industry is facing a significant wave of layoffs, with approximately 7,800 employees let go across companies such as Microsoft, Sony, Unity, and Riot over the past three months. This trend mirrors the tech layoffs that occurred in 2022, largely due to overexpansion during the pandemic gaming boom. Experts predict that the situation may not improve until 2025, when Rockstar debuts “Grand Theft Auto VI” and Nintendo launches its successor to the Switch console.
