U.S. spacecraft on the moon finally sends home the money shot

Intuitive Machines, a Houston-based space company, has successfully landed its robotic spacecraft, Odysseus, on the moon. Despite a broken landing gear, the spacecraft continues to operate, surprising engineers with its resilience. The landing site is enveloped in a milky haze, which is actually engine exhaust gases interacting with lunar dust. This mission, a significant milestone in commercial space exploration, was part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative. The successful landing and data collection from all six onboard instruments have led NASA to deem the mission a success.
