Threads, the Meta-owned social network, is set to make its API broadly available to developers by June 2024. The API is currently being tested with some partners, including Techmeme and Hootsuite. The introduction of the API will enable direct publishing to Threads, as well as scheduling, third-party analytics, and more. The Threads team is initially focusing on a write API, which will allow third-party publishing to Threads. This development is expected to be a significant aid for social media managers managing another platform. However, the write API will not facilitate analytics and other types of insight options at this stage. The Threads write API is already in live testing and is close to launch. The team is now looking to expand testing to partner and independent developers for further examination. Threads has seen rapid growth, reaching 100 million sign-ups in record time and achieving 100 million monthly active users months after launch. Much of this success is attributed to its connection to Instagram and the massive amplification that Meta can provide through cross-promotion of Threads to Facebook and Instagram.
