Microsoft is working with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel to improve upscaling support in PC games

Microsoft is set to debut DirectSR, a universal image upscaling technology, at the Game Developers Conference 2024. Co-developed with Nvidia and AMD, DirectSR aims to standardize upscaling methods for Windows gaming PCs. The technology will allow game developers to integrate super-resolution support across Windows devices, enhancing the visual quality of games without performance degradation. It is expected to work equally well on Radeon and GeForce graphics cards. The introduction of DirectSR marks Microsoft’s first venture into the upscaling domain and is seen as a significant step towards eliminating competition between AMD’s FSR and Nvidia’s DLSS.
