Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff is quietly buying up land in Hawaii. No one knows why

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has been quietly purchasing large tracts of land in Waimea, Hawaii. The billionaire tech mogul has acquired approximately 600 acres across at least 38 parcels of land in and around the small agricultural town on Hawaii’s Big Island. The purchases, made through anonymous limited liability companies and one nonprofit, have raised concerns among locals about potential increases in housing costs and cultural erosion. Despite these concerns, Benioff has reportedly made some philanthropic gestures, including donating land for affordable housing and a private school. The total market value of the properties is estimated to be nearly $100 million.
