Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already transforming the media industry. AI is being used in newsrooms for tasks such as writing headlines, managing paywalls, transcribing, turning stories into audio feeds, discovering emerging stories, fact-checking, and copy editing. However, the use of AI has also led to some issues. For instance, AI was allowed to run unchecked at CNET and Sports Illustrated, leading to disastrous results. Felix M. Simon, a doctoral candidate at Oxford, has published a white paper on AI’s future in journalism. He suggests that AI will change the business at every level and could potentially make news more accurate and timely. However, he also warns that if used frivolously, it could lead to an influx of spam.
