Google says Microsoft offered to sell Bing to Apple in 2018, but search-quality issues got in the way

In 2018, Microsoft proposed to sell its Bing search engine to Apple or start a Bing joint venture, according to a court filing by Google. The document was part of Google’s antitrust case against the U.S. Justice Department. Apple’s Eddy Cue stated that Microsoft had issues with search quality and wasn’t investing as much as Google. Microsoft has spent almost $100 billion on Bing over 20 years. Today, Bing has a 3% global market share. In the fourth quarter, Microsoft generated $3.2 billion from search and news advertising, while Google search and other revenue totaled $48 billion.
