U.S. company makes history with first commercial moon landing

Intuitive Machines, a Houston-based space company, successfully landed a robotic spacecraft on the moon.
This marks the first commercial moon landing and the first for the United States in over half a century.
The moon lander, named Odysseus, touched down on Malapert A crater, near the lunar south pole.
The landing site is of interest due to its potential ice reserves, which could supply water, air, and rocket fuel for future missions.
Despite technical difficulties with the spacecraft’s laser rangefinders, engineers were able to troubleshoot the problem and ensure a successful landing.
This achievement validates NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative, which aims to establish regular moon missions to prepare for future manned missions.
