Uber Eats expands its autonomous food delivery service to Japan

Uber Eats is expanding its autonomous food delivery service to Japan, marking its first venture outside the US. The service, in collaboration with Google alum startup Cartken and Mitsubishi Electric, will launch in select Tokyo areas in March. The delivery robots, Model C, are equipped with six cameras and advanced AI models for autonomous driving and obstacle detection. They have been modified to suit local needs in Japan, including a speed cap of 5.4 km/h and a reduced loading capacity of about 0.95 cubic feet due to extra thermal insulation
