PhonePe, an Indian fintech backed by Walmart, has launched its Android app store, Indus Appstore, to challenge Google’s monopoly. The store features apps from top brands like Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta. It supports 12 regional languages and offers round-the-clock support. The store, which currently features over 200,000 apps across 45 categories, will not levy any listing fee for one year. Developers can use third-party payment services without any fee. The store also offers localized features like app discovery via short videos and signing in with a mobile number. It aims to provide an alternative to Google and Apple’s duopoly on mobile apps.
