Tinder is introducing ID verification to tackle issues of catfishing and scams on the dating app. Starting in spring for UK and Brazil users, and summer for U.S. and Mexico users, Tinder verification will require a valid driver’s license or passport to receive a blue checkmark. This comes after a successful pilot program in Australia and New Zealand, where users who completed ID verification saw a 67% increase in matches compared to unverified singles. The app will check whether a user’s video selfie matches their photo ID and profile photos, and will also verify the user’s date of birth. Users can choose to verify only their photos or ID, receiving a blue camera icon badge or blue ID icon badge respectively. However, to receive a blue checkmark on their profile, users will need to complete both photo and ID verification.
