Elon Musk nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for being ‘stout proponent of free speech’

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind companies like SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Norwegian lawmaker Marius Nilsen, a member of the libertarian Progress Party, put forward Musk’s name, praising him as a “stout proponent for free speech.”
Nilsen commended Musk’s defense of dialogue and free speech in an increasingly polarized world.
Musk’s contribution to providing Starlink satellite internet connectivity to Ukrainian soldiers during the Russian invasion was also highlighted.
Nilsen acknowledged Musk’s tech companies’ role in making the world a more connected and safer place.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, which decides the winner from hundreds of nominations each year, accepts nominations from government officials and academia.
The nomination process runs through March, and the winner is announced in October.
Musk’s fortune was valued at $213 billion by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index as of Monday.
In late 2022, Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion with the aim of allowing unfettered speech.
Musk’s management style and tweeting habits have sometimes sparked controversy, but he remains a significant figure in the tech industry.
