- Google Maps has introduced a feature called “Bluetooth Tunnel Beacons” to improve navigation accuracy in tunnels.
- The feature uses Bluetooth beacons placed at tunnel entrances. Your phone connects to these beacons when entering a tunnel, acting as a relay between your device and the navigation satellites.
- To enable this feature on your Android device, open Google Maps, click your profile image, select Settings, scroll down to Navigation settings, and toggle on the Bluetooth tunnel beacons setting.
- Not all tunnels have these beacons installed, so there may be times when Maps loses connection while you’re in a tunnel.
- The feature was first introduced by Waze in 2016 and is now available in cities like New York City, Chicago, Boston, Paris, Rio, Brussels, Oslo, Sydney, and Mexico City.
- The feature is currently only available for Android devices and requires the latest version of the Google Maps app.
