Scientists Create Beef-Infused Rice With Cow Cells

Researchers in Korea have developed a new type of hybrid food – rice infused with muscle and fat cells from cows. This “beef rice” contains more protein and fat than typical rice, making it more nutritious. The team believes that this hybrid food could be cheaper and more environmentally friendly to produce than beef and rice combined. The process involves seeding rice grains with precursor muscle or fat cow cells, which are then grown in a petri dish. The resulting product, referred to as “microbeef”, has about 8% more protein and 7% more fat compared to regular cooked rice1.
